Be as Involved as You Want
Foxdale residents initiate and plan their own activities, serve on a variety of committees set up by the Residents Association, and serve on the Board of Trustees. Many of them are active members of such local organizations as the League of Women Voters, Habitat for Humanity, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program of Centre County (RSVP), and the Centre County Historical Society. Also, residents organize a biannual garage sale to help raise funds for the Residents Association, which funds resident committees and programs.
Celebrate Learning
Celebrate the joy of learning at Penn State’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI). Take a class in art, music, history, politics, cooking, literature, gardening, and more. Or take advantage of OLLI’s other activities, including hiking trips, dinner theaters, reading groups, and a variety of educational and social activities. Foxdale Village is an official OLLI Partner, and many of OLLI’s classes are held right here on the Foxdale campus. OLLI at Penn State is one of more than 100 lifelong learning institutes nationwide that is supported by a grant from the Bernard Osher Foundation. To learn more, visit OLLI at Penn State.

Just a short walk from Foxdale is downtown State College, home to charming tree-lined streets, an eclectic mix of shops, and a plentiful and diverse selection of great restaurants.
ARTS AND CULTURE
Cultural and entertainment opportunities abound in State College. The nearby Center for the Performing Arts brings some of the finest in performing arts, music, dance, theatre, and family programming to Central Pennsylvania. Each season includes everything from classical music and opera to jazz; Broadway musicals to drama; traditional ballet to modern dance; children’s stories to family shows; and rising newcomers to established popular entertainers.
Enjoy professional theatre in the heart of downtown at Pennsylvania Centre Stage. And during the summer, you can enjoy a play at State College’s Community Theatre. Also, the nearby State Theatre provides an exciting venue for theatre, dance, music, and film. Take in a professional chamber orchestra performance at Pennsylvania Chamber Orchestra. Or enjoy an evening with the Nittany Valley Symphony, a non-profit symphonic orchestra.
Located on the Penn State campus is the Palmer Museum of Art. Offering eleven galleries, a print study room, 150-seat auditorium and a garden for large-scale contemporary sculpture, the Palmer Museum is a cultural resource for students, faculty and staff, the local community, and residents of the surrounding Centre Region.
These arts festivals, held in downtown State College and Boalsburg respectively, draw tens of thousands of visitors each year to the area.
Throughout the year, Penn State offers an array of cultural and educational opportunities, including lectures, dramatic offerings and concerts on its campus. And, of course, there’s Penn State athletics, which draws large, cheering crowds to the area each fall.
NATURE
Pennsylvania has many beautiful state parks, several of which are near State College. In addition, the Centre Region, which includes State College and five surrounding townships, has its own excellent park system. The region is also known for world-class fishing.
